Morningside

Morningside in Southeast Detroit is home to 23,108 people.

It is 16km from Downtown Detroit or an 18 minute drive.

The neighborhood borders East English Village and upmarket Grosse Pointe.

But property prices in Morningside are much lower.

And there is a shortage of available homes in East English Village and Grosse Pointe.

As a result there is high demand for property in the area from buyers and tenants.

And prices are rising fast.

Morningside is also extremely popular with families.

Because it is home to several top rated schools including; J.E. Clark Preparatory Academy and Ronald Brown Academy.

What’s more, 79% of all high school students in Morningside graduate.

Morningside has some of the most pro-active neighborhood associations (block clubs) in Detroit.

They play an important role in the community by organising local events and meetings.

Moreover, they encourage neighbors to be vigilant which helps to keep crime rates low.

The largest, known simply as MorningSide, was established in 1979.

Its elected board work with community members and city officials to make Morningside a better place to live.

In recent years a lot of money has been spent regenerating the neighborhood and significant improvements have been made.

Back in 2010 Morningside received the award for the Most Outstanding Neighborhood on the Eastside.

More recently the committee successfully lobbied the City Council to ensure Morningside was the first neighborhood in Detroit to receive upgraded street lighting.

And in the last 5 years over US$ 75,000,000 has been spent improving parks, walkways and roads in the area.

The median home sales price in Morningside is US$ 70,157.
